CLASSIKA SPORT AND FITNESS
2306 BEDFORD AVENUE / LYNCHBURG, VA 24503 / (434) 455-4788
Current Small Groups and Class Openings:
- Girls Only! Fitness Class -- Check out a brand new boot-camp style
class for young ladies between the ages of 12-15. Two classes,
actually:
1) Beginner Class:
For those just starting out, this class will focus on gaining endurance,
balance, learning to engage the core muscles, promoting muscular
strength, and improving flexibility -- all while learning a variety of
different exercises and techniques.
2) Intermediate/Advanced Class:
For those who have already obtained a solid fitness base, this class
will focus on increasing and maintaining endurance, balance, core
stabilization, muscular strength and flexibility PLUS agility, speed work
and plyometrics.
Both classes will have both indoor and outdoor components. Groups
will meet twice a week after school, all led by Robyn Burgess, and the
classes will run for eight weeks. It promises to be a fun time as young
ladies in the group learn how to be fit in a non-intimidating,
supportive environment.
- Runners Workout -- A lot of recent research is finding that the right
kind of gym workouts can actually improve running performance as
well as help prevent some of the nagging injuries common among
runners. In this light, we'd like to offer a runner's small group to train
twice weekly in the evenings. This is not a running class! It will
primarily strength and conditioning to help you improve your running
this spring. Having said that, we might include a night to run as a
group. This class will also be led by Robyn Burgess, herself an
ultradistance runner.
- Classika leads a seniors' class at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on
Monday and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. The cost is just $20 per
month. If you or someone you know is over about, oh, 65 years of
age and needs work on strength, balance, and flexibility, please
consider joining our friendly group!
How It Works....
All clients work with a trainer at Classika. Some train one-on-one,
sometimes a couple of people will work with a trainer together, and
sometimes a small group (3-4 exercisers) will work together. Each method
has its plusses and minuses:
One-on-one training allows for the most personalized workout and the
most attention to form.
Partner training can be fun and combines the close attention of one-on-one
training with the lower cost per person of small group training.
Small group training is a cost effective way of having trainer oversight and
accountability, though workouts can't be perfectly individualized in this
setting. Otherwise, it is similar in structure to the other forms of personal
training -- the small group will determine training dates, etc.
A class is simply a small group with a theme, such as losing fat or beginner's
fitness, and a predetermined schedule. Individuals do not need to round up
two or three friends; folks can simply join when the class begins. Training
sessions can't be moved to accommodate late-arising schedule conflicts.
