What to Expect When You Come to Classika

Now let me explain what the process is at Classika:

  • You call or email us to set up an initial consultation. This is always free. You’ll tell us
what you’d like to see happen and in what time frame. We’ll tell you if it’s possible
and we’ll explain our philosophy of fitness. We’ll also show you around (being a
small place, it won’t take long). You can stop by as often as you need to; we want
to be as transparent as possible. If you’d like a sample workout, we are happy to
give one to you for free. Of course, not knowing you at that point, it won’t be
perfectly specific to you, but it can give you an idea of what to expect.

  • If you’re ready to sign up, we’ll discuss how often you want to work out and which
days of the week. You’ll sign a waiver, fill out a health history questionnaire, and
give us some contact info/fitness goals. If you wish to sign up for our email
newsletter, you can do that. Then, you’ll pay for however many sessions you’d like
to purchase. Sessions are one hour each, but you can work out in half-hour
increments (many beginners do just that). You can purchase anywhere from one to
twenty sessions, and you can pay via cash, check, Visa, or Mastercard. As you
come in for your workouts you will simply work through your sessions. So, if you
have to go away on business for two weeks, for example, you don’t lose money as
you would with a monthly membership. Your sessions will just be there waiting for
    you when you get back.

  • After agreeing on a time and date, you and your trainer will embark on a plan to
get you where you want to go. At your first “real” workout, we’ll take some
baseline measurements and begin showing you the exercises.  The weight will be
pretty light until you are comfortable with the exercises. You might get fairly sore
the first week or two. We try to avoid excessive soreness, but a certain amount is
unavoidable if you haven’t exercised since the Clinton administration. So, expect it.

  • Your trainer will vary your workouts. This will prevent boredom and allow the
muscles to be worked from different angles and with different loads. It’s still work,
make no mistake, but it won’t be the same thing over and over. As for
cardiovascular workouts, we try to avoid machines. Instead, we create circuits,
have you get awesome at jumping rope (it can be done!), or take you outside for a
    jog or walk.

  • We’ll usually take your weight and body fat percentage once a month to gauge
progress. We can always do that more often if you’d like. If your focus is on losing
weight, we likely will take measurements more often.

  • If you need to lose weight, your trainer will also provide you with nutritional
guidance. Unless a trainer has received specialized education in nutrition, he or
she can’t prescribe specific meals for the client. However, the trainer can provide
general guidance and accountability. Classika makes use of our Healthy Eating
Checklist to help clients eat more healthfully.
