Classika Trainers
Classika Sport and Fitness is a limited liability corporation which engages in
personal training and fitness programs. It is operated by Mark Haskew, a
certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the highly
respected National Strength and Conditioning Association. A 1996 graduate
of Liberty University, he has been working in Lynchburg since 2005. He is
also the head volleyball coach at Holy Cross Catholic School. He is an active,
high-level volleyball and tennis player.
Tara Litz received her bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from
Lynchburg College and is certified as a personal trainer through the American
College of Sports Medicine, one of the best certifying organizations in the
nation. Tara was the assistant basketball coach at Jefferson Forest High
School and supervised their strength and conditioning sessions.
Interested in becoming a trainer at Classika?
We're now accepting applications for another trainer -- focused primarily but
not exclusively on the morning hours. Trainers need to be certified through
NSCA, ACSM, ACE, or the Cooper Institute.
Classika trainers see all types of clients, from high school athletes to middle-
aged individuals seeking to get back in shape to elderly individuals wanting
to prevent falls and keep their quality of life. Therefore, applicants should
have experience with helping clients lose weight, safely getting in better
shape, and creating programs to help athletes in sport-specific programs.
A good trainer will offer a combination of education, experience, character,
and a personality that "clicks" with their clients.
Classika offers competitive pay rates as well as a bonus for extra hours of
training per week. We also offer partial compensation for continuing
education. And, since people come to Classika specifically for personal
training, there is no need to roam the gym trying to find clients.

Our Philosophy
Many people today go to the gym, hop on a few machines, spend some time
chatting, and then perhaps put some time in on the treadmill, often doing
the exact same routine for years on end! While this is certainly better than
doing nothing, these misinformed exercisers are missing out on some vital
aspects of fitness and may even be setting themselves up for injury. When
you hire Classika to craft your workouts, you will learn that:
- most beginners use too little weight, thus not challenging themselves
enough to see a difference. Our experience will help you find the right
balance between pushing yourself to improve and not going too far.
- the human body moves in three planes of motion, but most people
only exercise in one of them, leaving some muscles and joints
vulnerable to weakness, injury, and imbalance. Let us strengthen you
to move in every direction with confidence!
- the quality of the repetitions you do is absolutely crucial to getting the
full benefit of an exercise (and might help you avoid injury). Classika
teaches why foot placement, posture, breathing, and speed of
movement are important in each and every rep.
- the musculature around the hips is crucial, but many people ignore this
area entirely when working out. Classika will show you ways to build
the muscles around the hips, giving you better strength and freedom
of movement for many day-to-day functions.
- anaerobic endurance work can help you burn more calories in less time
than long slogs on the treadmill as well as prepare you better for
common day-to-day activities such as climbing stairs or chasing a
toddler.
Every day is a new opportunity to do something about your fitness level.
