Haven't Exercised In a While? No problem!


If you haven’t attended a gym or fitness center in some time, you aren't alone. Most
Americans don’t belong to one. But if you’re ready to see your health and appearance take
a turn for the better, a small, personal studio like Classika might be just what you've been
looking for.

Many people don’t particularly want to go to a large, self-service gym. Someone who is new
to exercise might feel self-conscious about their deconditioned state. They might also feel
lost among the acres of strange-looking equipment. Generally speaking, many beginners
feel out of place in a large gym. The truth is that most gyms operate with the knowledge
that, within three to six months of signing up, most members will not be frequenting the
gym  on a regular basis. In most gyms, only 20-40 percent of paying members actually use
the gym. This is a reflection of the problems that well-meaning beginners encounter.

Other beginners decide to work out at home, having been swayed by what they saw on
television or in the local sports store. But how often have you perused the classified ads
and seen “barely used” home gym equipment for sale? You yourself might own the world’s
most expensive clothes hanger, which used to be a treadmill. Unfortunately, bought with
the best of intentions, home gym equipment is often a waste of money.

Circuit training facilities are a move away from the big box gyms, and they provide structure
for the beginner. But there is little professional guidance, and the circuit quickly becomes a
rut for many exercisers. Boredom sets in and, just like the experience at the large gym, the
exerciser quits, frustrated with a lack of knowledge and progress.

If you've read this far, you probably already know how beneficial exercise is to your health,
and you might be looking for the right place to turn. Allow me to list how a private studio
like Classika might be right for you:

  • At Classika, you obviously will avoid the intimidation factor of the large fitness facility.
    In fact, there will likely only be you and your trainer at Classika when you’re there.
    You won’t have to wait for equipment. You won’t have to deal with major body odor
    around you. You won’t have to worry about what others are thinking. Instead, you
    can work out in peace. You can even pick the music you’d like to listen to!

  • You’ll have the immeasurable benefit of having a highly qualified personal trainer
    making sure your workout is safe and effective for your goals. We make sure our
    trainers hold only the highest certifications (specifically, ACSM, NSCA, or ACE). The
    trainer can work around whatever limitations you might have, such as a bad shoulder
    or knee. A magazine article can’t do this for you. As an aside, let me disabuse you of
    the notion that trainers are sadistic taskmasters. You will likely find that your trainer
    will become a trusted friend.

  • At Classika, your trainer will vary your workout often enough to keep you from
    becoming bored. One of the biggest obstacles to a new exerciser is staying with the
    program long enough to see results. And a big part of the problem is that of getting
    bored with doing the same thing over and over. Now, I don’t want to mislead you:
    exercise isn't necessarily fun. You probably won't enjoy all the exercises. But we can
    keep you moving forward and avoid the dreaded “rut.”

  • We’ll show you how to do the “classic” exercises that help you get in shape faster.
    That’s where we get our name from. Fitness fads come and go, but at Classika we
    can show you the proven way. Now, you won’t have seen many of these exercises in
    the big box or circuit facility, and you probably won’t think they’re easy, but we can
    promise you’ll get fitter faster. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment, so you’ll
    be able to do these exercises at most any gym or at home.

  • All-around fitness is our goal. You might have an overriding priority but we also make
    sure you are improving in all the fitness components: strength, endurance, agility,
    balance, and flexibility. And we have standards that give you guidance as to where
    you are on the path.

  • As a Classika client, you may come across some useful freebies. You might get a pair
    of workout gloves, a water bottle, or a T-shirt. It just depends on what’s going on at
    the time. We also provide info on upcoming seminars and athletic leagues (we’re big
    on finding an athletic outlet of some type since you’ll see a very direct connection
    between getting fit and your performance in that activity, whatever it may be).
